Discover why having a website is essential for creators looking to grow their business, increase revenue, and achieve long-term success.
As an online entrepreneur (influencer, content creator, course creator, coach, general online business person, etc.), do you really need a website?
I’m going to cut to the chase and answer that question for you: YES. If you have any interest in growing your business’ reach and income: EMPHATICALLY, YES.
Launching your website will help your currently-earning business grow exponentially. Here are all of the topics I’m going to cover to convince you why having a website is the best move for your growing influence.
We’ve all now experienced at least two different, significant instances when social media companies have either gone down for a few hours, or announced they were going away all together.
I don’t know about you, but if my business is built solely on those social media platforms, that FREAKS me out ❌❌ I don’t ever want to be in a situation where my business’ success is at the mercy of someone else’s platform.
Scary what-if situations aside, having your own website gives you immense control over your brand. You get to choose how and when you communicate with your audience - algorithm free! You also get to determine what type of content you can create, meaning you aren’t limited to photos, short form videos, and long form videos. Think about: blogs, curated lists, selling products, creating courses, etc.
With your own website, you also have control over your specific design aesthetic - you get to create a visual world that is unique to your business.
A website also gives you the opportunity to create a completely tailored experience for your followers. It allows you to expand beyond the confines of social media platforms and give your customers a world-class experience they rave about and keep coming back for.
With the amount of content platforms available, it seems like our content is scattered everywhere: photos here, long form videos there, casual short form videos here, more professional-style short form videos there…it’s never-ending.
Your website should be a central platform where a follower (read: potential customer) can dive deep into everything you have to offer. It becomes a place where all of your content either originates from, or is repurposed to.
A website is also an amazing place to showcase your work. This might be in the form of a portfolio of your past work, testimonials from happy customers, or case studies that detail the transformation of different clients.
Lastly, your website can be the home-base for all of your monetization opportunities. You want to create a place where it is easy for someone to take next steps with you and purchase your offers.
A website gives you immense earning potential, especially when compared to only tapping into monetization available on social media. Let’s think beyond brand partnerships and ad revenue - your website allows you to sell your own, unique offers that serve your customers and create transformation in their lives.
The types of products, services, and offers you can sell on your website vary widely and depend on your specific niche/expertise. Some common products people sell on their website are templates, e-books, courses, coaching services, unique products, memberships, etc. Any product or offer you can think of, it is highly likely that you can either sell it directly on your website or can use your website as a marketing and sales platform to link to where your offer is hosted.
Having a website immediately boosts your credibility. It is important for you to appear credible because it will help customers gravitate towards you, your content, and your offers.
So…how the heck does a website make you more credible? I’m happy you asked!
First, a well-designed website with cohesive branding and natural navigation positions you as a professional. If your site looks good, is easy to understand, and clearly guides your customer through a journey, it can only make you and your business look even better.
A website also helps you seem well-established. People who have a website typically are those who have been doing their thang (aka been in business or honing their craft) for a while and have chosen to invest in the money and time it takes to create a website.
Your website is the perfect place to showcase your expertise in your niche. You can have a page (or multiple) dedicated to displaying your past experience and authority in your field.
A website also increases your visibility byway of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). The more frequently your content comes up during searches, the more likely it will rank higher and result in higher trust from your audience.
Lastly, your website offers a way for people to contact you. This makes you more credible because your potential clients then know you are easy to reach out to and ready to help!
While you are likely already building your SEO with social media posts, once you create a website you can dial in your SEO strategy and attempt to rank for terms and keywords related to your niche.
Your keywords will relate specifically to your niche, what you do, and who you serve. Using your keywords frequently (and naturally) throughout every piece of content will aid in your overall SEO efforts.
It is important to focus on creating high-quality content so that when people find your content, they will gain immense value from it and likely want to learn more about what you have to offer. The more people that view your content and stay for the full experience (read the full blog post, watch the entire video), the more likely it is that search engines and algorithms push out your content to new people.
There are a variety of SEO tactics you can employ both on-page and when considering how your website functions. Most of these tactics are really only applicable to websites, so tapping into this side of SEO can greatly improve your discoverability.
If you’re currently a creator who is already making an income or you have a clear offer you want to provide, creating a website is your next step in leveling-up your business.
I’ve created a free checklist that walks you through all of the beginning steps and considerations when starting a website. After completing the checklist, you will be ready to start searching for a web designer that suits your specific needs.
If you are considering hiring a web designer, I’d love to be one of your options! Feel free to check out my services and packages. I’d be so excited to hear more about your business and how you want to grow!
